This week I’m back with Joanna, our Senior Development Chemist, to share the behind-the-scenes journey of crafting this exciting formula. Let’s jump in... 

Q: We’re so excited for everyone to try the Salicylic Acid Daily Cleanser! How did the formulation process work?

A: Development took about 8 months, during which we created 7 different versions to find just the perfect balance of ingredients. After the incredible success of our Salicylic Acid bodycare range, we knew we had to expand this hero ingredient into skincare. Since facial skin is more delicate, the challenge was to create a formula that clarified and smoothed without compromising on gentleness. We think we’ve nailed it.

Q: How does the formula exfoliate the skin without any beads?

A: Salicylic Acid, the most well-known Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), is the hero of this formula. Unlike physical exfoliants that can be harsh on delicate skin, Salicylic Acid gently exfoliates chemically by removing dead skin cells and unblocking pores. It's an oil-soluble ingredient, meaning it penetrates deep into the pores to exfoliate from within, making it particularly effective for oily or combination skin. This helps the skin to appear smoother, brighter and rebalanced—all without the need for beads or scrubs.

Q: How did you keep the formula suitable for daily use?

A: We wanted this cleanser to be as gentle as it is effective. To achieve that, we paired Salicylic Acid with Allantoin, a calming and soothing ingredient that helps reduce redness and irritation and ensures the skin feels comfortable after cleansing. We also included Betaine, a natural hydrator derived from sugar beets, which works to balance moisture levels and strengthen the skin’s barrier. This duo keeps the formula lightweight and refreshing while making it gentle enough for daily use. 

Q: How does the Daily Cleanser differ from the Body Wash?

A: While both products harness the power of Salicylic Acid, their formulations are tailored to their specific uses. The key difference lies in the choice and concentration of cleansing agents.

The Daily Cleanser uses mild, plant-derived cleansing agents such as Coco-Glucoside and Coco-Betaine. These are gentle surfactants that lift dirt and impurities without disrupting the skin’s natural moisture barrier, leaving facial skin feeling clean, soft, and balanced. On the other hand, the Body Wash uses Sodium Coco-Sulfate, a more robust surfactant that provides a rich lather to cleanse larger, tougher areas of the body. This is combined with other gentle cleansers like Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Lauryl Glucoside to balance its cleansing power while still being kind to the skin.

Ultimately, the Daily Cleanser is crafted to suit the unique needs of delicate facial skin, while the Body Wash is designed to tackle oil, sweat, and impurities on the body effectively. Using the right product for the right area ensures optimal care for your skin from head to toe!
